Higher Ways for His Glory

For anyone and everyone who has felt let down by the Lord, for those of you who do not understand how God could let whatever tragedy, heartache, injustice in your life. Listen up.

The answer is simple, although often ugly. God tells us “for My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways” in Isaiah 55, verse 8. If you’ve walked through an unwanted season before, someone probably has tried to slap this on it and say “well, we don’t always understand what God’s doing, right?” But y’all, there isn’t any bandaid that can make a yucky situation go away, or even feel better… am I right? It's okay to feel angry, sad and disappointed... as long as we don't stay there.

I have most certainly wondered during these times in my life why God wouldn’t intervene in a different way. Why would He allow healing to happen over on one side but not the other? Why wouldn’t He bring back all the wayward sons and daughters, not just a few? The tears cried over these questions are not few and far between, friend, as I’m sure you have been there too. Maybe you are there now.

And it seems like whenever trials comes, it’s when we least expect it; when we are merrily walking down a road God has given us, thinking we’re finally getting it together. And then whack… life hits us over the head with a curveball.

When the harshness of life turns personal, it has the potential to become all too overwhelming. Questions of “why” and “what if” consume us and we can often wonder if this is actually distracting us from the real purpose in our lives. As if the situation has derailed us from pursuing the calling He has actually given, because this most certainly isn’t what He had in mind.

BUT.

When I feel consumed and distracted, as if life has thrown me into a deep end I didn’t want to jump into, I read Isaiah 55. God has absolutely NO REASON to explain His ways to us - we will never understand them anyway. He also promises to always accomplish everything He sets out to.

For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there without watering the earth and making it bear and sprout and furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; so will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; it will not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:10, 11

What God says will happen WILL happen.

It’s as sure as the rain watering the earth when it comes down from the sky. Can you imagine rain coming down for days but the earth not getting soaked and sloshy? That’s how much of a sure thing it is that God will accomplish what He says He will. And through this, we can also infer, that God will accomplish THROUGH US what He sets out to.

Our situations cannot, by virtue of who God is, derail us. Our tragedies are not a surprise to God. Our heartbreaks are seen. Our sleepless nights are watched over. Our tears are counted in a bottle. This cannot reverse whatever it is that God has us on this earth to accomplish. His word will not return to Him void. Let yourself walk through all of the seasons, knowing His plan for glory is greater than any plan we have to stay stuck in our circumstances.

His grace is greater, His ways are higher, His thoughts are bigger, His love is mightier and His victory is sure. Be sure of Him today.
